Flu Season 10/29/23
Everyone in my flat, except me for some reason, is currently sick, so the halls and rooms have been echoing with coughs and sniffles all week. However, we have not let it affect our missionary work this week and had some really cool spiritual experiences.
Since my companion is the district leader, he has to conduct all of the baptismal interviews for baptisms that the other missionaries in our district have set. So on the very first day of the transfer we drove up to Tokoroa for the baptismal interview of this 10 year old boy named Kaiden, and when we walked through the door of the chapel, President and Sister Nikoia were standing right there. Apparently they were meeting with the Sisters in Tokoroa and decided to stay to have lunch with us. Our mission president is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and his wife is just the most genuine human being alive, so that was one of the most fun lunches I've had!
Elder Jones had served in the Tokoroa for the last 5 months so after we got the interview done, we made our way all over town visiting church members so he could say goodbye. They were so welcoming and they all just wanted to give us something, because Polynesians are crazy nice that way. So I got out of that trip a volcanic stone necklace, a box of brownies, two cupcakes, a tube of crackers, some granola bars, powdered milk, some cans of tomato soup, and two avocados. Good day to be a missionary!
The next day, myself and Elder Jones went to all the members of our ward introducing him and helping him get to know the area. Then on Saturday, we drove back up to Tok for Kaiden's baptism and it was super cool! A lot of his family aren't members of the church so it was awesome that they were there to support him.
On Sunday, made the trip down to Tūrangi for church, and when we got there we found out that our branch president had decided to stay home and watch the Rugby World Cup final (New Zealand lost by one point, so if you know any kiwis be extra nice to them). So being one of only two priesthood holders there, I was able to open and conduct the meeting, lead the music, bless and pass the sacrament, and close the video. We also found out that speakers were not assigned so we decided to have a little testimony meeting which was really cool and I really enjoyed hearing the strong testimonies of our little branch.
Love y'all so much!! Don't forget to pray!!
